Getting started in farming can be hard, so we wanted to share with you the things that we've found which have worked very well and actually performed as promised by the supplier. We hope you find this information useful!
LEIDEN LAND AND CATTLE COMPANY
This is the best round bale feeder that we've ever used. It is heavy duty and durable with virtually no waste - no kidding! The unique design holds the bale up the air in a cradle, which elimated the worry of snapping a cow's neck when putting a bale in and forces the cow to pull out just enough hay to eat but not too much at one time. Any excess that does get pulled out drops inside the tire and is kept clean and is readily eaten by the cattle. Rubber tire base is easy to push around to move to a new location, or to lift and move with a skidsteer with forks.
They also make a tire barn scraper which can push or pull the manure. Overall, great products and great service. And the best thing? The tires used to make this equipment are recycled from a local quarry in PA, so buying from them keeps another tire out of a landfill!
Whatever you need for sheep, these guys have got it! We have never bought a product from them that we didn't like. We especially like the Premier 4000c shears - this is the first pair of electric shears that actually feel balanced and comfortable in a woman's hand - and that you can shear with all day without having your arm cramp up. They have the things that a shepherd needs - eartags, branding paint, lambing supplies, medications - even a 30cc drencher that fits in your hand.
Fencing from Premier is lightweight and affordable for our rotational grazing systems. We use the Electronet for the sheep, and the Intellitwine for the cows.
Can't get any response from the big guys? This is the person to call if your farm has a private semen tank and you can't get anyone to reliably fill it with liquid nitrogen. His service is fast and affordable. Servicing CT, Eastern NY and Southern MA. Give them a call at 203-527-2018 or email nextgencryo@hotmail.com
